STAC-J, together with the Tokyo International Exchange Center JASSO (TIEC JASSO) will held a forum featuring presentations from Filipino graduate students and foreign students residing in TIEC on Sept. 24, 2011. It will be held at TIEC, Odaiba.

This forum particularly aims to promote science and technology research, strengthen international relations and establish wide networks, giving emphasis to the importance of science and technology in furthering globalization and sustainable development. Experts from various fields of science and technology will share their contributions to their respective fields and after which everyone will have the chance to network while enjoying Filipino cuisine and refreshments.

Admission is free. Doors will open at 12:30 PM. The organizers will offer simultaneous interpretation from Japanese to English and vice versa during the event.

Kapihan 2011: Spring Edition

STAC-J successfully hosted a simple workshop on the basics of taking photos under its bi-annual project, Kapihan. Invited guest speakers Juan Paulo Gutierrez and Noli Fernan Perez shared their interests in photography and traveling to more than 20 participants in an afternoon of great camaraderie. The said activity was co-presented by PNB Tokyo.

Participants learned about the basic functions and uses of the camera, things which a newbie should know.

Guest speakers Mr. Paulo (above inset) and Mr. Noli (below), kept the attention of the participants afloat with samples of their great works and encouragement to take photography as a worthwhile hobby. Of course, free flowing coffee helped in keeping everybody awake amidst the cool, breezy afternoon.

Walk the talk
Participants had the chance to enjoy the scenic Odaiba during a photo-walk after the workshop, where newly-learned photo-taking techniques were sharpened and tested in an impromptu photo contests among them.

2011-2012 officers sworn in

The new set of officers for the academic year 2011-2012 was sworn in to office today at the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo.

Former STAC-J President, Errol Quinay, led the simple turnover ceremony of the organization's leadership to William Hong, this years's president, along with the new batch of officers namely: Chris Santos (Sophia University) - Vice Pres.; Christian Pangilinan (Tokyo Tech) - Secretary; Cherry Mateo (Univ. of Tokyo) - Treasurer; Michael Cocjin (Tokyo Tech) - PRO.
